Armenian Inventors

Armenians have been innovators since the time when some of the greatest inventions the world has seen. Not many of us know that the world’s famous authors were Armenians. We have a rich heritage in cultural spheres and scientific fields. Armenians have invested huge contributions in world’s scope of inventions. Let’s look around and explore some things which were invented by Armenians.

Gabriel Ghazanchian is the inventor of hair-drier. This device have become an important part of our lives. In 1908, scientists have invented a prototype of the modern hair-drier and it was a first step to a more comfortable life.

Hovhannes Adamyan is the inventor of color television. Thanks to the Armenian electrical engineer today we can enjoy the colorful television. In 1908, Hovhannes Adamyan was the first who introduced the world to color TV. At that time, the “color” television has only two colors, red and white, later he built a three-color television.
Luther George Simijian is an Armenian-American inventor of numerous devices. In 1934 Simijian invented a self-posing portrait camera, with which the photographed person could see and optimize his/her own image in a mirror before the photo was actually taken. In order to manufacture and distribute the camera, which became a success for use in department stores, he founded the company which was called Photoreflex. In 1959, Simijian had the idea to build the Bankmatic Automated Teller Machine, and probably it was his most famous invention.

Christopher Ter-Serobyan is the inventor of paint. Christopher Ter-Serobyan was the one who invented the green paint of US dollars, nobody could ever fake. That was a real discovery, which made life easier for the whole country.

Varazdat Kazanjyan is the father of plastic surgery. During the first World War he used his skills as a prosthetic dentist to reconstruct the faces of thousands of soldiers disfigured during the war.

Artashes Haykanyan is the inventor of the straw. Few of us think about the one invented the straw sipping juice or cocktail. Corrugated straw is the most popular thing found in everyday life, but the scientist is the author of several scientific inventions, which are also part of everyday life.
